A Christian ‘prophet’ found himself at the wrong end of a pride of lions after running at them believing that God would keep him safe from harm.
During a safari in South Africa, Zion Church member Alec Ndiwane decided to prove that God was on his side by running at a pride of lions to demonstrate that man’s “dominion over animals”. Mr Ndiwana reportedly, “fell into a trance” and started speaking in tongues before sprinting at the pride.
Kruger National Park’s lions weren’t particularly phased by Mr. Ndiwane’s charge and decided that actually, he was probably lunch. Following their instincts, the lions decided to put up chase. When Alec realised that it was unlikely God would directly intervene, he turned tail and tried to run back to the safari jeep. Unfortunately for Alec, the lions proved their 4-legged running dominion over man and caught up to him, sinking their teeth into his buttocks.
Fortunately, a mere-motal game ranger took matters into his hands and fired shots into the air to scare off the pride before rushing Alec to hospital for emergency surgery.
Alec was later discharged and expected to make a full recovery, but his confusion was apparent, saying “I don’t know what came over me. Were we not given dominion over all creatures of the earth?”
Fortunately Alec started on a lower level of commitment with his faith, lower than burying himself alive to prove a point. Hopefully, a lesson was learned.
