Dustin Johnson leads golf’s Masters betting on 888 Sport

It seems like only yesterday that we celebrated Dustin Johnson’s victory at the Masters. The coronavirus-delayed event ran in November, meaning punters don’t have to wait long for the 2021 competition at Augusta, held on Thursday, April 8 through Sunday the 11th.

Not surprisingly, Johnson is currently the 7.50 favourite to retain his crown at golf’s premier event.

But a look through the other fancied players might offer some value for sports betting golf fans. According to the latest Masters odds at 888 Sport, we see a top ten of:

  • Dustin Johnson 7.50
  • Rory McIlroy 10.00
  • Bryson DeChambeau 11.00
  • Jon Rahm 11.00
  • Justin Thomas 11.00
  • Brooks Koepka 15.00
  • Xander Schauffele 19.00
  • Patrick Cantlay 26.00
  • Patrick Reed 29.00
  • Colin Morikawa 31.00

There seems a lot of value here. You can’t argue with DJ being number one, but DeChambeau bombed at the November Masters, despite claiming how he would smash the course with his big-hitting, brute force golf. Perhaps laying against him winning in April is a solid side bet.

Northern Irishman McIlroy has not shown form recently to warrant being the second favourite at 10.00. And while all names in the top ten have a shot, I prefer to look for longer odds; at others who can surprise punters and win with longer odds.

A top tip is Sungjae Im. At just 22 years old, the South Korean stormed to prominence last year, securing his first victory at the Honda Classic in March.

But more relevant to this article is that Im finished runner-up to Johnson at Augusta in November in what was his first-ever Masters.

You can currently get odds on him winning the Masters at 41.00, so if you fancy betting at 888 Sport, you could be on to a £200+ payday.

Im has the same odds as Tiger Woods. It’s crazy – yes, Tiger amazed the golf world by coming back from his demons to win the Masters in 2019 – but nobody seriously expects him to repeat it.

Longer odds still are available for Justin Rose at 51.00 and Phil Mickelson at 81.00 (perhaps only one for the sentimental among you).
