New study shows e-cigarettes / vaping harmful to lungs

Just when you thought you’d found a way to look cool without crippling health effects. Vaping can now be listed alongside sugary foods and heroin. Bad.

A new research paper published this month by The American Physiological Society found that e-cigarette vapour, even when free of nicotine, is found to damage lung cells.

This fact should not come as a surprise. Everyone knows that if something is too fun, or tastes too nice, it probably causes cancer or something. I mean, who doesn’t love the smell of creosote or eating their own body weight in Haribo?

Smoking, as ex-smokers will tell you, is fucking awesome. It does however, have the unfortunate side-effect of killing you. Vaping has been seen by many as a step in the right direction, with some people claiming it does absolutely no harm at all. Unfortunately, in lieu of any actual evidence. these people have to be filed under “optimistic well-wishers who had hoped life was that kind”.

Scientists have done what they do best, and proved once again that nature and natural biology are cruel mistresses. The full report, which you can read here, specifies:

“Interestingly, nicotine-free e-cig solutions were also found to include lung-harming substances, such as acrolein. This substance, which is present in both e-cig solution and vapor, has been shown to damage the lungs by attacking the molecules that hold endothelial cells together.”

Guess it’s time to get your kicks elsewhere.
