We’re not strangers to odd marriage proposals but Californian Michael Banks pushed himself to the limit, scaling the 183 metre high Morro Rock to propose to his girlfriend while she watched via FaceTime.

The good news for the slightly dopey Mr. Banks is that his girlfriend, did indeed say yes. The bad news is that he chose a different path for his descent and became stranded, needing rescue by helicopter. Todd Gailey, the Morro Bay Fire Captain said, “He couldn’t go any direction, on a sheer ledge, with his feet dangling 80 feet off the ground.”

Climbing on Morro Rock is banned as there have been several fatal falls in previous years, but Mr. Banks thought risking his life was a great way to communicate his affection for his girlfriend. Fire Captain Gailey had a slightly different point of view, saying that he should perhaps consider proposing “where you’re not in danger of falling off a cliff.”

Reportedly, Banks made no comment to his rescuers about regretting his choice of location.
